TxC Just Made History at the BET Awards!

If you love Amapiano (and honestly, who
doesn’t right now?), then this is a moment worth celebrating. Our very own TxC—the
dynamic DJ duo from Gqeberha—have just made history at the 2025 BET Awards on 9
June in Los Angeles.
🏆 A Big Win
for the Culture
So here’s the scoop: Tarryn Reid and Clairise
Hefke, better known as TxC, took home the Best New International Act award.
This is a huge deal—they’re the first-ever DJ duo to win this category,
and they did it repping South Africa and Amapiano on one of the world’s biggest
stages.
Even better? They shared the award with
Brazilian artist Ajuliacosta, which made the win feel even more global and
inclusive. We love to see it!
🎤 What They
Had to Say
On the red carpet, Tarryn was glowing (and
maybe a little emotional—we felt it too!). She said:
“This is our very first award, and to win it
on an international stage… we’re just so grateful to represent South Africa and
Amapiano music. It’s a win for us, for the genre, and for all the young women
coming up in this space.”
And Clairise added:
“To share this moment with Ajuliacosta is an
honour. It shows the world is listening—not just to South Africa but to voices
from across the African diaspora…”
Goosebumps, right?
🌍 Amapiano
Is Taking Over (Officially)
TxC’s win isn’t just about them—it’s about how
far Amapiano has come. This genre started out in South African townships and is
now playing in clubs, festivals, and playlists around the world. With nominees
from the UK, Nigeria, Brazil, and more, it’s clear the sound is global now—and
SA is at the center of it all.
Even our Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture
chimed in, calling TxC’s win “proof of extraordinary talent.” We
couldn’t agree more.
💃 Serving
Looks & Owning the Moment
Of course, TxC didn’t just win—they did
it in serious style. The duo wore matching custom outfits by American designer
Tyler Lambert, and their looks were the perfect mix of streetwear and cultural
flair. Stylish, bold, and unapologetically them.
🎧 From
Balcony Sets to Global Stages
If you’ve followed TxC for a while, you know
this didn’t happen overnight. They started in 2019, DJing from home, curating
playlists, and learning the ropes themselves. Since then, they’ve:
- Played at the 2022 FIFA World Cup
- Signed to LVRN Records in Lagos
- Toured across multiple countries
And they’re still just getting started. Oh,
and did we mention? They handle their own creative direction too—Tarryn leads
the styling and Clairise manages their brand. Total power team!
SA to the world, baby! 🖤💽✨
